The Outer Banks is quickly developing a reputation as a world class race destination.  The 2nd Annual OBX Marathon was held in 2007.  During its second year, the race ballooned in size from the first year.  The course presents varied scenery as it snakes through the island.  This year's race looks to be even bigger.

The 2008 OBX Marathon is being held on Sunday, November 9th.  This year's full marathon is the 2008 USATF North Carolina Association Marathon Championship.  The Gateway Bank sponsored half marathon is a great event for those not quite in marathon shape.  Both events are thoroughly supported by the local communities.  Also, both events are walker-friendly.  If you are looking for motivation to get in shape for the marathon be sure to check out the Outer Banks Running Club.  They will be getting their members ready for this year's race.   

 The OBX marathon is a great reason to come and spend a weekend on the Outer Banks. The pre-race expo on Saturday is a great place to pick up any pre-race items you may have forgot or if you are just looking for a good deal or running shoes or some local OBX merchandise.  You will find most of the local eateries bustling for breakfast on Saturday.  Take the day and enjoy some local sights or shop and take in some great deals on off-season shopping.  Hope you get a chance to check out the OBX Marathon this year.
