Cape Hatteras National Seashore |

Perhaps one of the best uses of our federal tax money can be found in the dollars that subsidize the NPS or National Park Service. The land that the park service preserves becomes ever more important as the population increases.
Three islands, Bodie, Hatteras and Ocracoke, are encompassed by this amazing natural park. The park is both maritime forest and barren beaches. The diversity that the park offers is breath taking. Many birds make migratory stops along the Outer Banks and the protected area of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The refuge allows many migratory birds the ability to nest. Often you will find roped-off bird and turtle nesting areas along the seashore.
The areas of the seashore not protected for the wildlife are open to all. Some areas are even available for ORV (Off-road vehicles) to drive on the beach. (***Though this is currently a matter in the courts). If you are planning on taking a trip to the seashore to view the wildlife or to enjoy a day on the beach, you won't be disappointed.
If you have the chance, stay until late in the afternoon when there are no cars as far as your eyes can see in either direction, and for just a moment you'll forget about everything and realize you have a moment alone in paradise. That moment truly makes it all worthwhile.
