2008 Town of Duck Events

The Town of Duck sponsors a number of events throughout the year for its residents and visitors.  This year's events include the Annual 4th of July Parade, Duck Summer Music Series, and 2nd Annual Jazz Festival.  Besides these annual events, the Town of Duck will also be sponsoring some great activities to start your day.  Each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will provide a different morning activity.  The morning activities will include: Tai Chi, Pilates, and morning theatre.  If you are looking for a great way to get up and get out, be sure to check out one of the morning activities.

 

ANNUAL 4TH OF JULY PARADE
Duck’s Fourth of July Parade will be held on Friday, July 4 at 9 a.m., with an after event at the Town Park featuring music by Ruth Wyand & Friends. The one-mile parade route begins at Scarborough Lane and continues down Ocean Way and then Christopher Drive. For registration information, contact the Town at (252) 255-1234.


TAI CHI ON THE TOWN GREEN
Tai Chi will be held on the Duck Town Green on Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. from April 1 through October 28. Tai Chi is a gentle art of health and well-being for people of all ages and health conditions and incorporates slow, graceful movements to increase strength and flexibility, and improves balance and circulation. Julia Daniel from Outer Banks Yoga will be the instructor.


PILATES ON THE TOWN GREEN
“Fit and Flexible” a beginning Pilates class will be held on the Duck Town Green on Thursdays at 7:30 a.m. from May 1 through August 28. The class is geared to all fitness levels. Participants should bring a yoga/Pilates mat or towel for the class. Patti Waller will be the instructor.


CHILDREN'S STORY TIME
Bring the children for story time sponsored by Duck’s two book stores: Duck’s Cottage and Island Book Store. Story time will be held in the Town’s Picnic Shelter at 10 a.m. on Thursdays beginning July 10 and continue through Thursday, August 14. Story time is geared to children between the ages of 3 and 7.

SUMMER MUSIC SERIES
Duck’s Summer Music Series will be held on the Town Green on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 – 7:30 p.m., with two exceptions. There will be two special Wednesday evening concerts. On Wednesday, July 16th, The Wells Family Band will bring its blend of acoustic pop, bluegrass, and country to the Duck Park stage and on Wednesday, August 13th, The Fuzz Band of Hampton Roads will be back in Duck after their 2007 Jazz Festival appearance entertaining the crowds with a fusion of funk, jazz, and pop. MORNING THEATER AND MUSIC SERIES
The cast from The Lost Colony Musical Theater will be in Duck on Wednesdays from July 9 through August 13 presenting music and shows from its repertoire. All shows are at 10 a.m.

July 23 – A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum Preview
July 30 – Madrigal Chorus and Guests
August 6 – Reaching for the Stars Song and Dance Preview

2ND ANNUAL JAZZ FESTIVAL
Duck’s Second Annual Jazz Festival, featuring Philadelphia musician Gerald Veasley, will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2008 on the Town Green. Plan to join us for this popular event!
