For all those who are wondering the OBX Marathon is only 9 days away. For the thousands who have been training I am sure it is approaching too fast. The long range weather forecast looks like temperatures in the mid 60’s with a chance of rain. Let’s hope the rain stays away and there is a light wind and sunny skies for all the runners. This year’s OBX Marathon, which we have reported is going to be much bigger than last year’s, has a theme. This year’s theme for the marathon is pirates. If you are going to run the race, be sure to find your pirate costume now. If you are coming out to support the race participants, come dressed as a pirate. Rumor has it that even the mile markers, where they will be handing out drinks, will be in the pirate theme. Who knows, maybe the Outer Banks most infamous pirate, BlackBeard, will be in attendance. Well, it is less than 2 months away. The OBX Marathon. Have you started your training? Have you registered for the full or half marathon? If the marathon is not your thing, there is always the Fun Run. It looks like this year’s marathon is going to be much bigger than last year. A source tells TheRealOuterBanks that marathon registration is up 20% this year. It looks like Veterans Day is going to be a booming weekend on the Outer Banks. Well, it is fast approaching. There are only 103 days left till the OBX Marathon. All the part time runners, joggers, and walkers need to get their training started. Thirteen or twenty-six miles is no easy task. Runners World has an excellent training program called Smart Coach that can help you with training. If you haven’t registered now is the time. This year is the 25th running of the Yuengling Nags Head Woods 5K. This is perhaps the most scenic race in the Outer Banks all year. The beauty of Nags Head Woods really can not be beat. It is one of the most unique places in the entire Outer Banks. Nags Head Woods is home to one of the Outer Banks most diverse ecosystems. This beauty makes it the perfect location for the Nags Head Woods 5K. The 5K is being sponsored by Yuengling, and the Outer Banks Kiwanis, and sanctioned by the Outer Banks Running Club. If you are looking for something to do this Saturday, May 10th, then come out and try the Nags Head Woods 5K. For everyone looking to get some exercise before those Valentine’s Day meals. The Outer Banks Running Club is holding a Sweetheart 8K. This fun event is open to runners, joggers and walkers of all types. Whether you live here or can come for the weekend, it should be a great time. The run is being held at the Roanoke Island Festival Park on Saturday, February 9th at 9 a.m. If you are interested, you can sign up here.
