Summer is Here on the Outer Banks

A string of beautiful weather and the highways are getting busier. It seems as if summer has truly hit the Outer Banks. What are you waiting for? Come on down and visit!

Outer Banks Oceanfront Restaurant

If you are looking to experience true oceanfront dining in the Outer Banks, be sure to check out The Pearl in Kill Devil Hills. The Pearl is the oceanfront restaurant located in the bottom of the Sea Ranch Hotel. The cuisine at The Pearl ranges from a casual lunch menu to fine dining at dinner.

The Pearl offers both indoor and deck seating. If you are looking to truly experience oceanfront dining, enjoy dinner or lunch on the deck. It is especially impressive when it is lit at night.

The menu changes with daily specials but is traditional French. You will find French mainstays like foie gras but the menu is definitely highlighted by the fresh locally caught fish. The Pearl also offers an extensive wine list and excellent desserts. You can experience lunch or dinner everyday and brunch on Sunday.

To experience a memorable dining experience in the Outer Banks be sure to check out The Pearl.

Kelly Bell Band at The Pit Memorial Weekend

The Kelly Bell Band enjoyed another run at The Pit during Memorial Weekend 2009. It has become a tradition for the band to play every Memorial Weekend at The Pit. Although the crowd was kind of small they were very into the band. This was my first experience with the band and I enjoyed every minute. My friend who invited me informed me that they the band can get a little raucous with the crowd. Well during the night we had two sets of women on the stage dancing to the delight of most of the men in the audience including the band. I enjoyed the band’s tribute to Chuck Brown when they performed a little “go go” music. The band’s original songs were also very good. I didn’t really know the names of them but was impressed with the band’s musicianship especially the guitarist Ira Mayfield, Jr. and keyboard player Kirk Myers. Finally, the glue to the band was the lead singer Kelly Bell who interacted very well with the crowd and fed off their energy. All in all a great performance. Check out a few videos that I shot of the band.

Outer Banks Beach Fire Safety

With wonderful places to camp in the Outer Banks you may like to enjoy a warm camp fire during the cool summer evenings. Keep your friends and families safe by using common sense and following these few simple safety tips.

- Research in advance local camp fire laws and restrictions. Every city and county has different laws.
- Apply for permits, as needed.
- Never build the fire bigger than needed. You can always add additional wood.
- Dig a small pit and clear the area by at least 5 feet from all debris, tents, and vehicles.
- Circle the pit with rocks or be sure to use a metal fire ring. I just saw nice metal fire rings at Dick’s Sporting Goods for under $20. This will ensure encapsulation and minimize safety hazards.
- Keep a bucket of water and a shovel nearby. The water is a great place to discard those used matches.
- Stack all extra wood upwind and away from the fire.
- Never leave the fire unattended!

Happy Camping in the Outer Banks! Save me some smores.
