Outer Banks Beach Driving

With the Summer now half over, the effects of the beach driving ban are being fully felt. Preliminary information shows that revenue is down on the entire island of Hatteras. National Park Service revenue apppears to be down near 20%, and many of the local merchants and business owners are expressing a loss this summer.

The impact of the beach driving injunction, has hurt the lifeblood of the island. With the true economic impact now being felt, many local groups and politicians are taking up the fight.

In their latest meeting, the Dare County Commissioners approved a resolution S3113 and HR6223, both of which were introduced into Congress. The resolutions support reinstating the interim management plan that was in place before Judge Terrance Boyle’s Consent Order. The resolution shows that the economic impact, of the unprecedented number of beach closings has caused significant economic harm.

It seems that a number of politicians and concerned citizens are working to find an agreeable way, to manage the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. All of us on the Outer Banks hope an agreeable resolution can be found.
