The Outer Banks is home to many things. One of the lesser known but definitely growing items are 2 local breweries. The Outer Banks Brewing Station is located right on US-158 in Kill Devil Hills. You can't miss the giant windmill. The second brewpub, Weeping Radish, is located on US-158 in Jarvisburg. Look to your right when driving onto the island and you can't miss their 24-acre butchery, brewery and eco farm. Both of these breweries have their own unique flavor and types of beer. Both breweries use of in-season ingredients lead to many unique and tasty beers throughout the seasons. Both brewpubs,Outer Banks Brewing Station and Weeping Radish, have received excellent reviews from beer drinkers locally and nationally.
The Outer Banks Brewing Station has some very amazing past brews. One brew, Olsch, is one of the easiest drinking brews they make and is a great introduction for someone new into the world of microbrews. Here you will find their current list of brews. If you stop in the OBBS make sure that you try their sampler, which offers 4 5oz. beers for $6. If you find a brew you like, they also offer growlers, which are 2 liter take-home jugs. Nothing is better after a long day then a barbeque and an ice cold jug of microbrew.
If you don't have the chance to stop by and get some beer made right on the spot, then the best selection of microbrews can be found at Chips Wine&Beer Market. Located in the Milepost 6 Shops in Kill Devil Hills, they have over 400 varities of beer on their famous Great Wall of Beer. |
